Pressing the keyboard, Betsy’s fingers were doing more than typing.

They were punching.

86. 92. 79.

One number after another she was hopelessly plugging away at the grades her cooperating teacher needed checked.

But Betsy wasn’t in the mood to check the numbers.

There was one class left on the Friday before Fall Break.

And she wasn’t exactly happy with her boyfriend.

Instead of staying home to see his girlfriend on her week off, he’d headed to South Dakota to hunt pheasant.

After two and a half years, she was still passed up by the prospect of shooting poultry.

True love, she thought. True love.

Nonetheless, there she was. Punching away at the keyboard praying for the bell to ring and too busy to notice the unexpected visitor.

“We have a surprise guest today,” said Mr. Hoham, Betsy’s cooperating teacher.

But Betsy didn’t even raise an eyebrow, her frustration aimed at the keyboard.

Only for a second longer, though.

“Everyone, I’d like you to meet Ms. Anderjaska’s boyfriend, Nik Johanson.”

Immediately, Betsy’s eyes looked up only to catch Nik’s off-glance. He couldn’t look at her. He couldn’t ruin the surprise.

He couldn’t wait to see her response.

Strolling between desks he smugly said Ms. Anderjaska had expressed some problems with the boys in that class and as he put it, he was just there to “regulate a bit.”

Betsy shook her head in disbelief. “Nik, this really isn’t necessary,” she thought.

Then, Nik looked up. His eyes met hers.

“Well, I’m here to set the record straight,” he said.

And with the drop of a knee and pop of a ring case, Betsy’s boyfriend shattered the dreams of many, many high school boys.

Ms. Anderjaska was soon to become a Mrs.

Now, almost four months after the engagement, Anderjaska is planning for her July wedding – and still learning along the way.

“I had no ideas about what colors or what I wanted it to look like,” she said. “It’s kind of fun that I get to do that.”

But whether Anderjaska has grasped an idea of the wedding theme or not, one thing is for sure – it’s going to be big.

Anderjaska’s guest list has grown to almost 650 people, but eliminating people was not the toughest part – the toughest part was finding a date.

Still, for not having much idea about how to plan a wedding, Anderjaska said she was getting the hang of it because some things just came naturally, such as finding the dress.

“Finding the right dress is like finding the right college,” Anderjaska said. “When it fits, you just know.”

After adding the veil, the dress soon made the wedding a reality, Anderjaska said. And her parents’ tears sealed the deal.

Turns out true love does beat pheasant hunting.
