Senior spotlight: Kyla Ronhovde

Senior Kyla Ronhovde doesn’t live at Doane, but this biochemistry major has still found a home on campus. Within the borders of the Lied Mathematics and Science Building, she has created a place of her own – specifically, in the lab. Ronhovde is one of two senior students majoring in biochemistry and is also an Idea Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) participant, which is a two-year intensive research program.

BBBS pairings enlighten both students & kids

Every week, around 40 elementary students wait anxiously for their hour with a Doane College student. The smiles of these children fuel those who are part of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters, a volunteer program that caters to children ages 6-18. Senior Meghan Kissel, a four-year member of the program, said the rewards were clear.

Bollinger's fine increase denied

The fine for locking yourself out of your room will not increase from five dollars to 20 this year. Kevin Bollinger, director of Residence Life, proposed the change in the lock-out policy because of the amount of lock-outs, a total of 130 this year, said sophomore senator Laura Jacob during the meeting.

Tuition increases 5 percent in 2010-11

Doane students tuition will raise five percent, according to President Jonathan Brand, as part of the 2010-2011 budget, bringing the tuition total to $22,170. “The cost of providing an education is high,” Brand said. “Every year we have costs that go up.

Faculty pay stays same for second year

Doane faculty will not receive salary raises for the second year in a row, despite record freshmen enrollment numbers. President Jonathan Brand met with faculty last Thursday to discuss concerns. He said in the meeting that pay would now be determined in October instead of February, and potential raises would be considered this coming fall.
