After four years at Doane, Todd Depue has discovered his passion to climb the scales. For him, these scales sit in two separate passions: vocal performance and photography. But it wasn't where he started the climb. Depue began as a music education major his freshman year.
The stream trickled downward against the smooth granite. The line casts in a zigzag pattern absorbing the bright morning sunlight against the golden prairie background. A trout leaped out of the cool water, snagged by senior Larry Dostal. Dostal removed the trout from the hook and released it.
Philosophy professor Cassie Striblen resigned in March from Doane to work closer to home. "I am going to a university just outside of Philadelphia with around 13,000 students," Striblen said. "I will have six philosophy faculty colleagues, and I will be teaching graduate students as well as undergraduate students.
Earth Day is spreading its roots across campus today with a plant sale held by Roots and Shoots and webcast by the Wildlife and Conservation Organization. Roots and Shoots President Kelsey Lueke, a senior, said the sale would be larger than usual this year.
The daughter of a Doane employee was killed and a son critically injured in a car accident Tuesday near Wilber. The 13-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy are the children of Dawn Aksamit, a member of the building and grounds department at Doane, according to an e-mail sent to faculty and staff.
Doane's theater department is waving goodbye to its old shop and making a splash in a new one. Thankfully, the only splashes will be from paintbrushes. The department is moving its scene shop to Butler's old swimming pool, which was recently filled in to accommodate the change.
