Students interested in learning more about the Greek organizations on campus can start by attending open houses, which began in October.
The open houses provide a more personal glimpse into the personality of a sorority or fraternity, junior Omega Psi Theta member Emily Jones said.
"It was a comfortable environment to let them get to know the girls in the sorority," Jones said. "It allowed the girls to get to know us and what we're about."
Jones is the social chairwoman for the Omegas and played a role in planning the fall open house.
Starting in October with Gamma Phi Iota, each sorority has had an open house with the exception of Chi Delta. Its open house is 7 p.m. Nov. 15 in Communications Room 40.
Active members talk about the fraternity or sorority and attendees are able to ask questions. Pamphlets were handed out at the Omega Psi Theta open house containing information about the sorority, including active members, the symbols of the sorority and what being a "sister" means.
"I wanted to get a feel for the different sororities," freshman Tiffani Thomason said. "It just gave me an idea of what kind of girls they were."
Freshman Caitie Liebman said she was more interested in join a sorority after attending the Omega open house.
"The Omegas seem very laid back and welcoming," Leibman said.
The Doane fraternities' open houses started with the Delta Kappa Pi barbeque Nov. 8. Alpha Pi Epsilon will hold its open house on Dec. 4, and Tau Sigma Zeta's will be on Dec. 5.
